Freshman
Health
Students not only explore the knowledge of health topics, they also engage in activities
that help them to make good decisions when faced with health issues. Students learn through
role playing, discussions, videos, experiments, current events research and a wide variety
of learning methods.
Topics included in freshman health are:
- What is Health and Wellness
- Stress Management
- Nutrition and Weight Control
- Substance Abuse (Alcohol, Tobacco, Drugs)
- Infectious Disease (sexually Transmitted Disease and AIDS, Common infectious Disease)
- Noninfectious Disease (Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer)
- Personality
Physical Education I
The emphasis of this course is in the area of Team Sports. Students work to develop
basic neuromuscular skills, coordination, rhythm, as well as initiative, leadership and
good sportsmanship. Students use and enjoy the vast outdoor areas of the campus as a
background to the well rounded program.
Freshmen are enrolled in this course and it meets for one semester. Block scheduling
allows the students to work in the weight room on a regular basis.

Physical Education 2
This course is taken in the sophomore year. It is also a semester course. The
emphasis of this year is to build on the foundations of Physical Education 1 and to further
development and implement life skills as they apply to sport. Students can choose from
the following course offerings.

Advanced Physical Education
Advanced Physical Education is for juniors and seniors who want to further their
knowledge in the area psychomotor development. Students are surveyed and the courses
are designed to meet their needs and desires. Typical choices include volleyball, basketball,
team handball, floor hockey and flag football. Not only do students participate in game
activities they also learn advanced strategies, officiating, and coaching techniques.
