STUDENT-ATHLETE CONDUCT
Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School, its philosophy, administration, faculty and staff
supports the belief that the student-athlete is a person who has a very strong influence
both in the community and student body. Being often observed, a student-athlete has the
responsibility for showing good wholesome leadership and exemplary behavior to those
with whom s/he comes in contact.
Student-athletes are expected to behave accordingly in all situations in which they
represent NDCL. This includes travel to and from contests, at restaurants or hotels.
Any misbehavior may result in suspension from the team
IN-HOUSE EVALUATION
In accordance with the rules and regulations of the OHSAA, Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin
School conducts an in-house academic and behavioral eligibility program as follows:
(a) Prior to the beginning of each sports season (Fall, Winter, Spring), the Athletic
Directors distribute to all administrations and teachers a roster of each team. Varsity,
JV, and Freshmen levels are included as well as cheerleaders and team managers.
(b) Three times during each quarter (two Academic Progress Review dates and quarter
report card), the Guidance Department will report to the Athletic Directors the names
of any student athletes who have received two (2) or more Ds or Fs.
(c) Two or more D s and/or Fs will render a student athlete ineligible
to participate in games when the academic review is received by the Athletic Department.
(d) Athletes who are declared ineligible can be reevaluated the week following the
date of t the report. At that time, if a stuident athlete has improved to 75% or better,
his/her eligibility will be immediately reinstated.
(e) The reevaluation in the form of a written document from the relevent teacher(s)
will be the responsibility of the student athlete.
(f) Student athletes who are ruled academically ineligible may practice, with the
approval of the coach, but may not dress for games, matches, or meets. It is at the
discretion of the coach whether or not the non-uniformed student athlete will be on
the bench during the game.
The above policy refers to academic eligibility. If a teacher experiences problems with
a student athletes behavior, the teacher is encouraged to speak with the Dean of
Students. The Dean of Students willmeet with the student athlete involved and determine
resolution and appropriate consequences. If necessary, the Athletic Directors, parents,
coach, and/or Dean of Students will meet to discuss student athletic issues.
