The new decade began on an upbeat note for NDCL’s Capital Campaign, with the display of exciting conceptual renderings which share the vision for a new Athletic Center building and the renovation of the auxiliary gym into dedicated Performing Arts Space. Together, these interdependent “Capstone Projects” will significantly increase the size of gym space for physical education classes, team sport practices and games, while moving these activities out of the “aux gym.” This will allow for the renovation of the auxiliary gym into a dedicated, more comfortable and more functional performing arts space.
Both of these projects were identified priorities of NDCL’s Igniting a Spirit of Community & Faith capital campaign, according to NDCL President, Sr. Jacquelyn Gusdane. “We are very excited about how these Capstone Projects will transform the NDCL Experience for our students. However, we need to be clear that we need the generous financial support of our families, alumni and friends to make this a reality” explains Sr. Jacquelyn. NDCL needs to fully fund both pieces to ensure a smooth and successful finish to this campaign. That would make it a true ‘capstone’ – a crowning achievement!”
Architectural design and work, preliminary activities and construction will begin as soon as funding is available. Naming rights and other “naming” opportunities exist in both the Athletic Center and in the Performing Arts Space. It is our hope that we can break ground by the spring/summer of 2011.
This is not to say that we are not moving ahead with other projects and improvements. In fact, campaign gifts are needed currently for the renovation of the NDCL Cafeteria. This summer (2010), NDCL is slated to complete the new look in the Cafeteria by remodeling the dining area into an inviting common area reflective of the NDCL experience.
As a reminder, all new gifts to the campaign will be matched by a $1 million Challenge Grant from the Edward A. and Catherine L. Lozick Foundation. The Challenge Grant is a three-year commitment that offers a match for gifts of cash or equities made between September 10, 2008 and September 10, 2011. The Challenge generously matches every new dollar received for the campaign at a 2:1 ratio, up to the first $5,000 and at a 1:1 ratio from $5,001 up to $100,000.
