Seniors in Theology teacher Mr. Doug Murray's Christian Leadership class are learning from each other—and students in Indiana—thanks to a pilot program through Teen Leadership Corps (TLC).
Last spring,
Mr. Murray was nominated by TLC to pilot a virtual classroom to the many
new schools across the country that are implementing the TLC
curriculum.
"Participating
in the virtual classroom allows the curriculum to become an extension
of learning in the 21st century through collaboration, servant
leadership, and communication skills," said Mr. Murray. "Students at
both schools will apply these skills in their school and extended
community."
This
week NDCL and Guerin students connected for the first time using
the Amvonet System. The session included a meet-and-greet along with a
discussion on the meaning of leadership.
"It was a new experience to interact with other students in class hours away from us," said NDCL senior Tim Helton. "It will be interesting to learn from each other and be able to interact with them through the live chat."
The two schools will meet live once a week, while each of the classes taught at NDCL will be recorded for student use each day.
"I am excited to be a part of this program at NDCL and proud that we are helping spread this curriculum nationally," said NDCL senior Diana Muzina. "This is a great opportunity to work with other teens to truly make a difference."
