First-ever Biomedical Symposium succeeds

The patients may have been fictitious, but the enthusiasm for learning was both real and contagious as students, educators, medical professionals, and parents gathered in the Sisters of Notre Dame Learning Commons Thursday night for NDCL's first-ever Biomedical Symposium.

Students in our new Biomedical Studies course transformed the Learning Commons into a showcase of medical inquiry. Working in pairs, they shared with visitors the symptoms, medical histories, and diagnoses of the patients they have been "treating" for much of the first semester.

Science teachers Mr. Nathan Smith and Miss Rebecca Weinfurtner coordinated the event with the professional assistance of Dr. Janet Poponick '77, medical consultant for the course.
