NDCL's teachers present at global educational conference in Atlanta

DYNAMIC DUO: Miss Ericka Bella (left) and Mrs. Marcia Pecek get ready to present at the ASCD conference in Atlanta last week.
Educators throughout the nation and beyond had the opportunity to learn about NDCL's success with flipped mastery learning in Algebra 2 when Math Department Chairperson Mrs. Marcia Pecek and math teacher Miss Ericka Bella presented at the 71st Annual ASCD Conference in Atlanta last week.

Our math duo shared strategies, success, and struggles with flipped mastery learning—an instructional approach that meets the needs of individual students by maximizing teacher-student interaction during class, enhancing out-of-class learning, and promoting student decision-making and responsibility for the pace of their own learning.

While in Atlanta, Mrs. Pecek and Miss Bella met Mr. Jonathan Bergmann, an educational author and international expert in flipped learning. Mr. Bergmann was so impressed that he interviewed them for "The Flipped Side," a podcast series he produces for the BAM Radio Network.

Mrs. Pecek and Miss Bella were selected to present from a field of thousands of educators throughout the world who submitted proposals to ASCD. Last year they presented at the National Catholic Educational Association Convention in Orlando.

ASCD is a global community of educators dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading. The association promotes innovative solutions that empower educators to promote the success of each child.
