Campus roars to life as school year begins
Our students and staff celebrated the start of the new school year with a Welcome Back Week jam-packed with exciting activities focused on faith, learning, and fun. Even Mother Nature got in on the act with Monday's spectacular solar eclipse!

GATHERED IN THE SPIRIT: The entire school community prays with NDCL Chaplain Father James Caddy during our Mass of the Holy Spirit on Lozick Field on Wednesday afternoon. The weather could not have been more perfect!

BROTHERS IN PRAYER: Juniors Tino Perfetto and Scott O'Toole join in the Lord's Prayer.

SWEET SOUNDS: Junior Kevin McGinty, sophomore Julia Tripodo, and junior Madelyn Wanke lead the community in song.

ECLIPSE EXTRAVAGANZA: Students check out the solar eclipse with special glasses provided for every member of our community. Our Eclipse Extravaganza included an all-school cookout, including free moon pies, Sun Chips, sunflower seeds, and other eclipse-themed treats.

WELCOME TO THE PRIDE: New Notre Dame Schools President Dr. Michael Bates chats with sophomores Kylie Blackburn and Mary Grace Raddell following the class assembly on the first day of school. Dr. Bates joins us from Notre Dame Academy in Los Angeles.
CREATING ART AND RELATIONSHIPS: New art teacher Miss Claire Raack and senior Anna Geduldig work together in the ceramics studio in the Fine Arts Center. Miss Raack is an accomplished artist with her own studio and gallery downtown. Check out some of her pieces here.

READY TO LAUNCH:
(Left photo) Junior Zach Urda (front) and classmates Nick Gattozzi (left), Michael Naro, and Joe Pallante get ready to pitch rocks into the lake behind McGarry Gym after their class assembly on the first day of school. Principal Mr. Joseph A. Waler challenged the students to see the rocks as anything that weighs them down from reaching their goals this year. "Cast those limiting thoughts, feelings, and fears away so you can become the woman or man God calls you to be," Mr. Waler urged as hundreds of rocks flew into the sky. (Right photo) Sophomores pick up rocks on their way to the lake.

FIELD WORK: Science Department Chairperson Miss Maureen Wahl and her Honors Biology students take advantage of the gorgeous summertime weather to collect observations of plants on campus. With Miss Wahl are sophomores Grace Jaworski, Grace Koenig, and Garrett Sah.

NO, WE CAN'T KEEP HIM! But that's exactly what sophomores Olivia Kozelka, Emma Liberatore, and Lauren Frank want to do with this cute visitor on Friday. Thanks to our friends at the Geauga Humane Society's Rescue Village, about 10 therapy dogs and their owners joined us to celebrate Welcome Back Week and to help release any normal stress students and staff may experience at the start of the new year. STARTING STRONG: School just started, but senior Zach Sabath is already hard at work in his Advanced Placement Government class.

THE MEM'RIES OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL DAYS BRING JOY FOR YEARS TO COME: The Lions 22-0 rout of Willoughby South on Friday night capped an absolutely perfect Back-to-School Week. Experience some of the magic of that night by clicking the image above to watch the football players, cheerleaders, band, and fans as they join in the NDCL alma mater after the victory. Special thanks to Mrs, Michelle Rowley, mother of senior Travis and sophomore Paige, for sharing this video with On-Lion.
