Seniors Kayla Powell and Jacob Woodhouse have been commended by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) for their outstanding performance on last year's Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test.

As commended students, Kayla and Jacob scored among the top 3% of more than 1.6 million students who took the test nationwide last October.

“Commended students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation,” according to an NMSC press release.

“We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success,” the release said.

"Kayla and Jacob are top performers and stellar individuals in so many ways," added Principal Mr. Joseph A. Waler. "Day in and day out, they demonstrate the drive and determination necessary to achieve academic excellence."
