91 seniors commissioned as Ohio’s first NASPA-certified high school peer educators

During a commissioning ceremony Monday evening, 91 NDCL seniors became the first high school students in Ohio to be certified as peer educators by the National Association of Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA).

In an engaging address peppered with insightful anecdotes from his extensive medical career, Dr. Michael Kellis, Director of Geauga Sports Medicine and a partner with Precision Orthopaedic Specialties, shared several keys to healthy and holy living with the newly commissioned certified peer educators.

Mr. Dean Robinson, Catholic Outreach Coordinator for the Ohio Catholic Federal Credit Union, presented a $5,000 check to help fund the cost of NDCL's CPE program. NDCL Director Advancement Mr. Keven Krajnak '98 wrote the grant proposal that led to the credit union's gift.

The Certified Peer Educator program provides our students with foundational-level skills to empower them as stronger leaders, better role models, more effective advocates, and more productive team members. Ordinarily, NASPA only works with college students, but NDCL health aide and wellness coordinator Mr. Pete DeMichele persuaded the organization to include our students in the nationally recognized program.
