Science Olympiad team fares well at Invitational Meet

NDCL's Science Olympiad team competed well against tough competition, including the reigning national champions, in the Kenston Invitational on January 17. The Lions won three individual event awards and finished 16th out of 42 teams from throughout the state.

SUCCESSFUL SCIENTISTS: Seniors Ben Wozniak & Amanda O'Reilly celebrate after the awards ceremony at the Science Olympiad Invitational at Kenston HS.

Senior Ben Wozniak and sophomore Angelo Capito took first place in the technical problem-solving event. Ben and senior Amanda O'Reilly also won sixth place in compound machines, while seniors Collin O'Neill and Michael Plent took seventh in the "scrambler," which involves designing a device to transport an egg.

Although the Invitational only recognizes the top eight finishers in each event, the Lions also racked up these noteworthy performances: sophomores Billy Martin and Zach Corkwell and senior Amanda O'Reilly, ninth in experimental design; and freshmen Nathan Lewandowski and Nora Nelson, 12th in "It's About Time," which challenges students to build a time-keeping device. These scores contributed to NDCL's overall ranking in the invitational.

Science teachers Mrs. Pauline Cheeseman and Miss Rebecca Weinfurtner coach the team.
