Hard-hatted Lions check out stream erosion project

EROSION EXPLORATION: Ms. Christina Znidarsic points out the features of the erosion control project to environmental science students and Conservation Club members last week.

Hard-hatted Lions check out stream erosion project
Last week students in Mrs. Elizabeth Ford's environmental science class joined members of our Conservation Club for field visit of the erosion control project currently underway just north of Lion Stadium.

Ms. Christina Znidarsic, project team leader from Davey Resource Group, met with the students via Zoom prior to taking them out in the field for a tour of the project, which involves installing a staircase of gigantic boulders in the stream to slow erosion. This spring Mrs. Ford hopes the students can return to the site to assist with planting pollinators and other native plants to stabilize the re-graded embankment.

According to Notre Dame Schools President Dr. Michael Bates, the erosion control project has been in the planning stages since 2019. Notre Dame Schools secured a matching grant from the Ohio EPA to help fund the project. The EPA also certified that the project is environmentally friendly downstream.
