NDCL celebrates 32nd Commencement Ceremony

Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School celebrated the achievements of 172 members of its Class of 2022 during the school's 32nd Commencement Ceremony on May 27 at the Mentor Fine Arts Center.

Brian Picciuto '22 delivered the commencement address. He is the son of Abinadi and Cinthia Brice Picciuto '77.

NAMING THE MOMENT: Senior Brian Picciuto delivers the commencement address during NDCL's 32nd Commencement Ceremony.

In his insightful and often humorous remarks, Brian reflected upon the many ways NDCL has shaped him and his classmates over the past four years.

"Although we've all waited for this moment, now that it's here, it's harder than I thought," Brian said. "It's time to say goodbye to our friends and teachers, to move on to the next chapter, but I don't want to turn the page."

"You might be saying to yourselves, 'The last four years are nothing but memories now,' and that's exactly right," he explained. "That's what makes them so powerful. We encounter events, the happy times, the sad times, the wins, the losses only once, but they live on in memory forever. And that's one of the greatest gifts: the memory of it all."

“NDCL isn’t just a place.
It’s a mindset as well:
a mindset we have to carry with us to show others the power of Christ’s love.”

—Brian Picciuto ’22

Brian challenged the Class of 2022 to transform their memories into life-changing and faith-sharing experiences to transform the world.

"NDCL isn’t just a place," Brian stressed. "It’s a mindset as well: a mindset we have to carry with us to show others the power of Christ’s love.”

He concluded his remarks by noting that the commencement ceremony occurred on the feast of Saint Augustine of Canterbury, a bishop in the Middle Ages who worked to share the Christian faith with the Anglo-Saxon people.

“Going forth, as we continue our lives through college, our careers, and beyond, let’s try our hardest like Saint Augustine to spread what we’ve learned for the greater good, for the legacy of NDCL, for Christ,” he stressed.

“Let’s continue to focus on loving, respecting, and educating all to discover and develop their own God-given talents and to be the lions of the world.”

Seniors Ellie Znidarsic and Jacob Koenig are all smiles as they wait for the start of NDCL's 32nd Annual Commencement Ceremony. Seniors Olivia Artino and Braelyn Beers share a hug before the procession into the Mentor Fine Arts Center begins on Friday night.
