All Saints, All Souls celebrations remember departed
Our school community celebrated the enduring power of God's love and our memories of departed loved ones with traditional ceremonies and festivities to mark All Saints Day and All Souls day this week.
Chaplain Father Jim Caddy led us in prayer for our all-school All Saints Day Mass on Tuesday. During the liturgy, students and staff brought forward vigil candles in remembrance of those who died in the past year.
Our World Language Department created a traditional Mexican ofrenda or altar in the cafeteria. The ofrenda honors departed loved ones with candles, flowers, incense, candy skulls, silly skeletons designed to poke fun at death, religious objects, and pan de muerto (bread of the dead).
During all lunch blocks, Spanish teachers Senoras Leticia Echanove, Ofelia Puente, and Illiana Thomson distributed 150 loaves of pan de muerto they purchased from La Mexicana Bakery in Painesville.
