Student Service Requirement

NDCL students use the MobileServe app, which logs, tracks, and verifies service. A start-up guide of how to use the App is available by clicking here. Opportunities for service are promoted on the website, on NDCL Live (morning announcements), and in Theology classes. To see the opportunities currently available click here.

The following parameters are designed to help students plan out their service for the school year.

Students must earn:

  • A minimum of 20 hours within the acceptable categories is required each year.
    • Semester 1: 10 hours must be completed by December 15
    • Semester 2: 10 hours must be copleted by May 15 (Seniors: May 1)
  • Students are encouraged to serve “above and beyond” the minimum required and should catalog those hours under the “Above & Beyond” category on the MobileServe app.
  • Students must verify service using at least tow of the means presented through MobileServe (geoverification, name & email of site supervisor, signature of supervisor, and photos of themselves in action), one of which MUST be the supervisor's email. Students should double check that they have entered the correct email address.
  • Students should participate in a variety of service experiences that take them outside their comfort level over the course of the high school years.
  • Each student will prepare and submit an Inspiration Reflection due in Theology class in the third quarter. This reflection will be based on a minimum of five hours served at one organization

Acceptable categories of service for freshmen and sophomores:

  • Community service focusing on the corporal works of mercy, e.g., feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick, shelter the homeless.
  • Care for creation
  • Additional service opportunities may also be acceptable. Click here for these possibilities.

If clarification is needed, students should contact Campus Ministry to verify the acceptability of a service opportunity.

Acceptable categories of service for juniors and seniors:

  • Direct service that corresponds with the following principles of Catholic social teaching: Life and Dignity of the Human Person, Option for the Poor and Vulnerable, Solidarity. Students are encouraged to continue serving with the organization to which they were introduced on the Junior Justice Retreat.
  • All applicable opportunities listed on the Campus Ministry webpage. The category will be specified for each opportunity for all grade levels. Click here to view them.
  • All spiritual involvement at NDCL (Mass Crew, liturgical ministries, assisting with prayer services, Freshmen Community Retreat, Sophomore Respect Retreat, servant leadership of Kairos retreat, etc.). Students can sign up for notification of these opportunities by contacting Campus Ministry.

If clarification is needed, students should contact Campus Ministry to verify the acceptability of a service opportunity.

“Above and Beyond” service for all students

Students are asked to record ALL service. Any service beyond the minimum requirement or performed outside the specific categories for the grade levels should be categorized as “above and beyond” on the App.
